River Unseen is a large scale video installation created for 150 Media Stream unique LED structure. With every project I am interested in responding to the space and it’s surroundings. After visiting the 150 North Riverside building I new right the way that I would like to develop a piece about Chicago River - the body of water constantly flowing next to the building. I wanted to bring the natural slow flow of the river into the space. I am fascinated by how the natural and manmade coexist together and how tension arises between them.

PROCESS
Using the found objects I created a series of small landscapes made out of natural and synthetic materials and filmed them inside a water tank. I used objects you may find floating in the river like a plastic bag, sticks, plants but instead of treating them as garbage I presented them as an organic elements of the landscapes. In my work I draw a lot of inspiration from the urban landscape. Throughout the video I am transitioning between varying underwater spaces and the surface of the river.
